I remember an incident in USA where a five year old child while playing with the smart phone of her dad ordered BMW Car which was delivered within "No Time" and the father took the delivery of the vehicle just to honor the order placed by his 5 year old girl child.
• If you are maintaining a "Wallet" with the shopping site to keep the credits, discounts, refunds, return payments or keeping funds to make express payments - please make sure that you can make Nomination in Wallet Account so that in case of any eventuality credits in your wallet accounts get accessed by your nominees/legal heirs. One of affluent friends, Madam Hillary, who was an online shopping addict and used to create wallet account even at unknown and unpopular shopping sites, when asked to tell as to how many wallet accounts she was maintaining replied in negative as she had no knowledge about the number of wallet accounts and amount lying in such wallets. • You can cancel the order before it gets dispatched in case you find that the order has been placed under mistake of fact.
• Every online seller has refund policy and you can return the item and claim refund within the refund period under refund rules.
• While making payments in execution of your online orders or making payments of utility bills make sure that there is Security PadLock in the address bar.
• Also check for service charges or service taxes levied by the payment gateways while making payments through debit cards and/or credit cards. In most of the cases there are no charges while making payments through Net Banking.
• Do not be tempted to make payments through Credit Cards of particular banks who offer Cash Back while using their bank's credit card. Once I paid a sum of Rs.6990 through HDFC Bank Credit Card to avail 5% Cash Back on Snapdeal but felt cheated when no amount of Cash Back as promised was credited to my HDFC Bank account. The matter was taken up with SnapDeal and HDFC Bank simultaneously who referred to the Terms and Conditions of the offer which ran into a dozen of pages. I had to spend more than 2 hours in reading T & C online to find that Cash Back will be credited after a lapse of more than 90 days. Ordinarily a common man will forget about the cash back and you may not get cash back without registering complaint. You can check another example of cheating by bigwigs like Britannia.
• Never accept the Courier which is tempered with. In case of items of higher value say value more than Rs.5000.00 it is always better to open the box immediately in presence of the delivery boy under video so that you can raise the claim in case of broken, damaged article or no article.
• Keep a record of all your online profiles to keep track of your Digital Assets
